this is why you should care about the reddit strike

This is a big concern for the moderators internally too. We’ve checked our own subs in archive.org to see what is available and will be making steps to make materials available independently of reddit. Archival organizations are working overtime on Reddit right now because they know it might fucking implode soon.

The text says: Watching everyone slowly realize in real time that reddit being down means a major source of practical knowledge and advice that is searchable on the general internet is gone, and so is everything that reddit had replace. Here’s a thing I do as a prepper, that is relevant here: if I ever have to look something up like how to fix my sink or what kind of plant something in my yard is or a recipe I print out the answer and put it in a binder. Never know when I’ll need that info again, and when it might vanish off the internet so I may as well put it in the closet with my other gear.

Not to sound like a fuckin hippie but please for the love of god start noticing and appreciating the natural world around you. You don’t have to go hike the entire Appalachian trail or anything and I get that not everyone has access to the outdoors for various reasons, but just fucking … look around you when you’re outside. Notice the sky and the sun and the birds and creatures. Start caring about them. I’m begging you.

This is really sad, but it’s at least kind of encouraging that he’s still trying

Absolutely. The spirit of learning should be nurtured at any age. Read on, info warrior!

Hey, this is exactly how you expand your vocabulary - stumbling across new words, looking them up, and then remembering that. And they’re still having fun reading the book, so they’re probably going to remember the words they pick up. This is good!

I see y'all in the notes making fun of this, don’t fucking shame people for learning stuff late. It’s not like this guy can go back in time and do more reading as a kid/teenager, do you want people to learn new things, or do you expect everyone to just wallow in ignorance if they weren’t lucky enough to be taught things as a kid/teenager? And they don’t need an easier book either, if they’re engaged with this one and understanding it, they’re fine.
